Gloria Bistrița a pierdut la limită, scor 35–36 (17–19), pe teren propriu, în fața formației Brest Bretagne Handball, în prima manșă a sferturilor de finală din EHF Champions League Women. Partida disputată la TeraPlast Arena a fost una intensă, decisă în ultimele secunde.
Momentul-cheie al meciului a venit la final, când Paula Arcos a ratat șansa egalării, cu o aruncare de la distanță, în poarta goală, iar echipa franceză a plecat cu un avantaj minim înaintea returului.

Clarisse Mairot: „A fost un meci foarte greu. Sunt foarte fericită că am câștigat împreună cu echipa.”
Sonia Seraficeanu: „Mă bucur că sala a fost plină. Sunt mulțumită de luptă și de efort. Cred că șansele sunt în continuare egale.”
Returul decide calificarea
Manșa retur este programată duminică, 26 aprilie, de la ora 19:00, în Franța. Echipa care se va impune va obține calificarea la turneul Final Four de la Budapesta, programat în 6–7 iunie.
Site-ul oficial al competiției a remarcat echilibrul confruntării, notând că Brest „a supraviețuit amenințării numite Bistrița”, iar calificarea rămâne deschisă înaintea duelului decisiv.
În celelalte partide din sferturi, Team Esbjerg a învins CSM București cu 26–25, în timp ce FTC-Rail Cargo Hungaria întâlnește Metz Handball, iar Odense Handbold joacă împotriva Győri Audi ETO KC.
Diferența este minimă, iar Gloria Bistrița merge în Franța cu șanse reale de a întoarce rezultatul și de a ajunge în Final Four.

Gloria Bistrița suffered a narrow 35–36 (17–19) home defeat against Brest Bretagne Handball in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the EHF Champions League Women. The match, played in a packed TeraPlast Arena, delivered high intensity and drama until the very last second.
The decisive moment came at the end, when Paula Arcos had the chance to equalize with a long-range shot into an empty net, but missed, allowing Brest to leave Romania with a one-goal advantage.
A game of fine margins
Brest took a slight control in the first half and led by two goals at the break. Gloria responded strongly after halftime, closing the gap and keeping the game on edge until the final whistle. While the attacking phase worked efficiently, defensive issues proved costly.
Top scorers for Gloria were Delgado (8 goals), Sonia Seraficeanu (7) and Gutierrez (6). For Brest, Ondono (7) and Clarisse Mairot (6) led the scoring chart.

Brest head coach Raphaelle Tervel highlighted the difficulty of the encounter:
